Tsonga reaches Marseille quarters

The quarterfinals has been reached by the French crowd favorite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, with a come-from-behind second-round victory Wednesday at the $785,000 Open 13 tennis event.

The first set against Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky has been dropped by Tsonga before charging back for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 decision on the indoor surface at Palais des Sports.

The first round concluded here on Wednesday, as fifth-seeded Croat Ivan Ljubicic leveled Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev 6-2, 6-4 and German Philipp Petzschner ousted seventh-seeded Latvian Ernests Gulbis 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.

Additional first-round action saw Edouard Roger-Vasselin top fellow Frenchman Arnaud Clement 6-3, 6-2 and French favorite Gilles Simon stop fellow former top-10 star Nikolay Davydenko of Russia 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. Simon captured this event in 2007, while the veteran Clement was the 2006 winner.
